Halloween Cross In Bend

Every year we make the drive 3-hours east to Bend, OR for a Halloween weekend of cross racing. It's the one weekend each season that our US teammates get to stay home and sleep in their own beds. Kids Cross gets super cute and the national caliber venue hosts top pros and locals alike with a wild costume party.

We had a smaller area for the Kids Cross race but it turned out to be the best location yet in many ways. It was right at the entrance to the expo area, through the fly-over, so we had a lot of spectators! The course itself included a number of challenges for the kids. Off camber turns, run ups, steep descents with 180 turns at the bottom, hairpins and it was all on grass! I was a little worried until I saw Meadow, who is two years old, shred the downhill on her balance bike! The future of cycling is secure in Oregon folks, believe me.

The Speedvagen Family Racing team raced well on Saturday but an asthma attack set Laura back. She returned Sunday to let everyone know it wouldn't keep her back as she took the win. Full race report at cxmagazine.com. Jeff is in town from Oz and raced out of the back on Saturday to earn himself a call up in Sunday's race. Brennan finished in the top 10 of a stacked field both days.

Tina got the hole shot on Saturday!

It was also Sacha's birthday weekend. Over 30 friends gathered to celebrate with a wonderful potluck, drinks and key lime pie. Yum!
